Superheroes + sequels at the GCFF

What is the craziest thing you would do to get on the set of Thor: Ragnarok or Kong: Skull Island?

These two blockbuster sequels are being filmed on the Gold Coast in 2016 – just two of the many reasons to celebrate our homegrown talent with the Gold Coast Film Festival.

The opening night began with red carpet interviews, followed by a screening of Eddie the Eagle – starring Hugh Jackman – and without a doubt, an after-party.

Red carpet chatter revealed some very interesting animal alter-ego’s (ahem… unicorn cross turtle) and creative theories on how to get on the set of the Thor or Kong sequels. Let’s just say climbing to the top of the Empire State Building and nudity were the tame suggestions. Marvel was revealed as being far more popular than DC – a reflection of our silver screen adaptations perhaps?

VIP guests included Australian filmmakers, actors and athletes, including Chloe Maxwell and Mat Rogers, Scott Prince, Charli Robinson, Steven Bradbury, Brenton Rickard, Sally Pearson and Michael Shelley.

One of the top filming locations in Australia, the Gold Coast celebrates it’s dedicated creatives with 10 days of screenings and workshops.

I vividly remember watching the 2002 Winter Olympics and Bradbury skating past the pile-up to win Australia’s first Winter Olympics gold medal.
I used to come last in my track events at Little Athletics with a huge smile on my face, but because I entered every event – every week – I earned the most points and took out the Gold Medal.
Life is only as good as we perceive it, and it was a pleasure to meet Steven and view Eddie the Eagle in one night… Motivation overload.
